Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Latest Trailer Is Packed With Weapons
We just saw a brand new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the third part in the trilogy of games remaking the 1997 classic. The trailer focused on Weapons, the guardians of the planet fought by Cloud and his party, and showed off Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon in more detail.
The trailer opens reflecting on the current threats facing the planet, including a looming Meteor about to crash, and a set of “planetary warriors” known as Weapons that stand in the way of Cloud’s party as they travel toward the final battle with Sephiroth. We get close-up looks at three of them: Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima, as well as some new glimpses of combat that include the newly playable Cid and Vincent Valentine.
We also get yet another a look at what Square Enix means by calling this a “world without boundaries,” as the party can fly anywhere on the planet in the Highwind and parachute out into the world to continue their adventure.
The trailer doesn’t give away too much about what wild twists might be in store for us, and I’m certain those twists will be many. Final Fantasy 7‘s remake trilogy has been deviating significantly from the plot of the original, messing around with different timelines and metaverse-like concepts that introduce Cloud’s late mentor, Zack Fair, back into the story, and that left the second game, Rebirth, in a really interesting spot with regard to what’s actually real and what’s not. None of the trailers so far have made an effort to address that, which feels deliberate and ominous to me. There’s no way they’re just making a normal Final Fantasy 7 game after all that.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is still planned for launch this spring, but no firm date yet.
