Nearly 30 years after it was released, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has shed its blocky Nintendo 64 polygons and embraced an ultra-realistic HD overhaul in the upcoming remake. Fan opinions may be divided on the latest big swing in the franchise’s ever-evolving art style, but today’s big reveal did supply us with some very pretty screenshots with lots of interesting details to comb through.
Especially if you played the original game a bunch of times as a kid, or even dabbled with the upgraded port for the 3DS, it’s fascinating to see so many distinct characters, locations, and scenes flooded with all sorts of new visual effects and flourishes. From Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Castle, Ocarina of Time hasn’t shied away from filling in all of the blanks that were left to the imagination in the original.
Here are 16 high-quality screenshots directly from Nintendo’s website that give us our best sense yet of the level of new detail that’s been added to one of gaming’s most beloved classics.
