GTA 6 PS5 Controller Pre-Orders Go Live On PlayStation Store And It Immediately Collapses, Meanwhile eBay Is Flooded With Scalpers
Pre-orders for the Grand Theft Auto 6-themed PS5 DualSense controllers went live earlier today. And the demand for these Vice City-themed gamepads was extremely high, as Sony’s PlayStation Direct store buckled under everyone trying to snag one. Others were stuck in an hour-long queue or were unable to check out. Meanwhile, people had more luck at other sites, like Best Buy, that seemed to handle the influx of customers a lot better.
On September 10, pre-orders went live for the previously announced GTA 6-themed DualSense controllers. Both the black and white variants of the controller cost $85 each and feature a custom pattern and pink color scheme that evokes Vice City. They look pretty dang cool. And if you tried to pre-order one today, you likely had a heck of a time.
At one point, while waiting for the PlayStation Direct store to let me order my controller, I was kicked back to a cute error message screen featuring Astro Bot, which you can see above. I was eventually able to buy a GTA 6 controller via Best Buy, but checking a minute later, it seems the site has already sold out. Yikes. Turns out a lot of people want an $85 GTA 6-themed controller!

According to recent posts from Wario64, the GTA 6 controller is still available at Walmart and GameStop as of 10:30 a.m. EST. However, it seems to be only the white variant at the moment. And some people are reporting errors when trying to get the controller into their carts. So good luck to you. I’ve seen plenty of people sharing screenshots of pre-ordered GTA 6 controllers in the replies below Wario64’s various posts, so if you keep trying, you’ll likely be able to get one.
The GTA 6-themed PS5 controllers were announced last week during Sony’s most recent State of Play. They feature color-shifting paint, embossed palm trees on the grips, and the GTA 6 logo on the front touchpad, with a different GTA logo on the back of the gamepad.
If we hop over to eBay, you can find plenty of marked-up GTA 6 DualSense controller pre-orders for sale on the internet’s favorite auction site. As is tradition these days with any popular, sought-after item, the scalpers have arrived, locked down as many pre-orders as possible, and are now selling them back to people for as much as $195. Others are only asking for $150 or $130. How generous of them.
Of course, one caveat to remember whenever you see these kinds of pre-order items flooding eBay is that many of these listings featuring massively increased price tags likely won’t sell. Still, it’s annoying to watch this song and dance happen again and again each time pre-orders for a new gaming product or tech device go live.
