CachyOS vs. Windows 11 vs. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS On Intel Wildcat Lake + 8GB RAM
Often times when testing different Linux distributions or comparing Windows vs. Linux it's on leading flagship desktop or server hardware, but today we are looking at the Ubuntu vs. CachyOS vs. Windows performance at the opposite end of the spectrum. With the new CHUWI UniBook $449 laptop powered by Intel Core 3 Wildcat Lake and with 8GB of system memory, here is a look at how those three operating systems compare across a variety of workloads.
With the CHUWI UniBook review sample having shipped with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, I decided to compare how that updated Windows 11 environment pre-loaded on this Wildcat Lake laptop compared to the rolling-release CachyOS and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS given the popularity of those two Linux distributions. All operating systems were updated and at their defaults during the benchmarking process.
The CHUWI UniBook as a reminder is powered by the Intel Core 3 304 Wildcat Lake processor made up of 1 P core and 4 LPE cores. There is 8GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD. It's quite the opposite end of the spectrum of hardware we are usually benchmarking for high-end Linux performance.
