Apple releases HomePod 27 with two new improvements
Today Apple released iOS 27 and its companion updates, including new HomePod 27 software that adds two primary improvements.
HomePod 27 is the latest software update for HomePod, you can install it via the Home app on your iPhone under Home Settings ⇾ Software Update.
Here are Apple’s official HomePod 27 release notes:
This update introduces support for AutoMix with Apple Music, which transitions between songs like a DJ does, time stretching and beatmatching to deliver a continuous playback experience. It also delivers improved AirPlay performance, providing faster and more responsive connections when sharing music from iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and provides bug fixes and security updates for your HomePod.
Aside from bug fixes and security updates, HomePod 27 has two notable changes:
AutoMix was first introduced on iOS last year, but it’s getting better this year and expanding to both HomePod and Apple TV.
With AutoMix, you get song transitions that sound more like what you might hear at a party or venue with a DJ. That makes the feature a great fit for HomePod since it provides music to your whole house.
AirPlay improvements may sound like a minor change, but in practice they can make a big difference in connecting quicker than ever to your HomePod. Using the iOS 27 beta, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how fast and easy it is now to switch playback to and from my iPhone and HomePod.
There’s no Siri AI available in HomePod 27. However, we’re expecting that to debut as part of new HomePod hardware updates launching in the coming month or so.
