Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest video game releases in history. So I’m not surprised that Rockstar has secured some very famous musicians to run some of the upcoming open-world game’s radio stations. I just didn’t expect this many big names, including Bad Bunny and Lana Del Rey.
On October 8, the same day that Cyberleek dropped a new GTA 6 gameplay leak, Rockstar Games announced some of the radio stations and music that will be featured in the massive, long-awaited sequel to GTA V. You can read more about those stations and the kind of music they will feature here. And if you want, you can check out our list of all the music we’ve spotted via leaks and trailers, too. (The list is over 70 songs long!) But also announced today as part of this big GTA 6 news blast was the confirmation of a few famous folks who will be DJing some of these stations.
As reported by Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, musicians Lana Del Rey and Morgan Wallen will host Back Country Radio, an outlaw country station. Del Rey’s husband, Jeremy Dufrene, is also in the game and will voice Mud Dog Mike, who Rockstar describes as “Back Country’s roving reporter, swamp meteorologist, and Delta’s not-so-secret lover.”
“One of the coolest things about [being in GTA 6] is the fact that the first time some of our family got to L.A., they actually knew the roads because of playing [GTA V],” said Del Rey. “On so many different levels, this is super special and a privilege. Can’t wait to get into the game and start playing.”
Puerto Rican musicians Bad Bunny and RaiNao will be the hosts of Cocoteo FM, a radio station dedicated to Latin music.
“Cocoteo gets our vibe, our slang, our taste, our pride, our experiences, our traditions, and all our crazy antics,” explained RaiNao in a statement to Pitchfork. “It feels incredibly special to lend my voice to GTA 6 and do it in the best way possible: having fun, embodying a character who’s like me, and putting our culture, our music, and our people in the spotlight.”
Meanwhile, pop star Robyn and model Alex Consani will host Flash FM, a station first featured in the original Vice City. (Robyn also has a track included in GTA V on its pop station.) Slayer’s Kerry King and Tom Araya are set to host GTA 6‘s heavy metal rock station, The Chamber 106.6, which features a Slayer song. Trick Daddy and Trina will host Dirty South Classics. And Nigerian singer/songwriter Burna Boy will co-host AfroBank FM alongside DJ Palms Trax.
This isn’t the first time famous musicians have hosted GTA radio stations. Kenny Loggins hosted a station in GTA V and Iggy Pop hosted a station in GTA IV. But this time around, it does feel like Rockstar has gone all out with its in-game radio hosts. And even better, it sounds like these musicians were involved in helping curate the music and vibes of each station.
November 19 can’t come soon enough. I just want to park my car by the beach, turn on Flash FM, and vibe out for a few hours while watching the waves crash into the sand.
