The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Officially Titled Sentinel
Confirming a recent report, Bethesda has confirmed the subtitle of the next Elder Scrolls game as The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. This was shared as part of a 40-year anniversary video recapping many of Bethesda's highlights over the year.
Unfortunately, that's all that was shared about the game, though we did get a (very familiar-looking) title card showing the game's name in the classic Elder Scrolls font.
The one hint of what might await in the game was a quote that follows the screen above. It's attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell in 4E 206: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate."
Two details stick out there: the reference to a scroll and Hammerfell. A recent report from The Verge stated that Elder Scrolls VI will be set in Hammerfell and focus on the history of the titular Elder Scrolls and discovering their secrets. You can see how this quote might hint at that being the case, though these details remain unconfirmed for now.
The Elder Scrolls VI was announced way back in 2018, at a time that Bethesda boss Todd Howard later admitted was not his preference. Virtually nothing has been shared about the game since that debut trailer, including any imagery, hence the reason we've all seen that mountain range countless times in the eight-plus years since.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the majority of Bethesda Game Studios staff are at work on the game, with Howard saying, “We know we need to get it right and it’s been a long time." The last core entry in the series, Skyrim, released in 2011, meaning it will be more than a 15-year gap between new games.
No release date or platforms for The Elder Scrolls VI have been announced, although Bethesda's parent company, Xbox, has faced renewed pressure to turn its business around. In part, that will involve focusing on its biggest franchises, with Fallout 5 also in the works, though Bethesda devs are said to fear further layoffs.
